PHEW It's been busy! February is London's best month in Entertainment & Fashion. Covering London Fashion Week, The Elle Style Awards and The Brit Awards with a sprinkling of other jobs such as premieres and photo-calls takes its toll, but it's a period you have to embrace and try to get the best from. I've previously shot London Fashion Week for the Drinks Sponsor 'BeautyIn' which had its own challenges but wasn't nearly as demanding as covering it editorially for Getty Images. London Fashion Week by it's very nature is an intense frenzied celebration of British Fashion. There are just so many shows in various venues, it's all hands to pumps, it is the one event that attracts a wide variety of people with such differing reasons to be there, You might say some with unjustifiable reasons, I couldn't possibly comment, LFW is a victim of its own success.
The Elle Style Awards is one of the most Glamorous events we have in the UK, access to shoot this event is the HOT-TICKET because the attendees are a mixture of the UK's most 'On trend' celebs and visiting A-list glamour. I get frustrated with guests because it seems they are determined not too smile, attempting sultry and seductive but often not managing either, I know I can't and I've tried. I guess I'm just a cheesy guy and a sucker for an honest smile.
Being slow to pack up has its uses as Simon Cowell arrived late with Lauren Silverman, I frantically scrambled some kit together just as the couple playfully kissed for the few remaining cameras. It's the only time I've snapped Mr Cowell with partner Lauren and his demeanour is much warmer in her company.
The Brit Awards has a rich history of raucous behaviour and there is always a headline grabbing incident, this year Madonna's wardrobe malfunction was less titillating more titter-making. My assignment was to shoot the Sony Music after party, it's a late night and you just don't know if the guests will be in the mood for more pictures because the Brits is so demanding media wise and the Artists just want to relax. But this time it went well, Paloma Faith won Best Female and Rita Ora was in the party mood, but you have to know when to leave them to it.
